Introduction

Prosthetics and Orthotics is a specialized health care profession that is concerned with design, development, & fitment of prosthetics& orthotics appliances.The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics provides Rehabilitation Service to the persons with Locomotor Disabilities.

Prostheses (artificial limb) are given to people who have lost their limbsdue toTrauma, Diabetes, Infections, Tumors, snake bites etc... Artificial limbs are designed according to patient’s requirement to replace their lost part.

Orthoses are used in supporting & improving the function of the weakened body part, preventing or correcting deformities and hence providing pain relief.Various splints for upper limb, Lower limb and, spineare made as per individual requirements.


Functions of the Department

Prosthetic and Orthotic is department helps to enhance the function and lifestyle of persons with limb loss.The Professionals does an assessment, measurement, fabrication, fitment and alignment of Prosthetic and Orthotic appliances to the Persons With Disabilities as per their need to construct the match of functional need of an individual.

Prosthetics and Orthotics Professionals play an important role in the comprehensive pre and post-surgical management of amputee and other neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. Prosthetics and Orthotics Professionals make the patient independent, confident and useful member of the society through comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic management.



Services offered

  • The P&O workshop is establishing soon and following appliances will be made
  • Lower limb Orthosis such as Foot Orthosis, AFOs, KAFOs, HKAFOs.
  • Various hand Splints like cockup splint, Airplane splint.
  • Spinal orthosis like collars, belts and support.
  • Traumatic And Nontraumatic Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation.
  • Lower and Upper limb prosthesis (artificial limbs) to restore function and cosmetic appearance, provide ambulation and
  • Prefabricated aids/ appliances (Crutches, Walkers, Wheel chairs, Tricycles etc.) for mobility.


Prosthetic and Orthotic Professional does not only provide service to persons with euromusculoskeletal disorder and persons with disability, but also it provides service to general health and work related disorder such as foot disorders, fractures, sports injuries, disorders due to aging, tendinitis, muscular pain, aesthetic restoration etc.

  • Camps
  • To provide the rehabilitation services to the Persons With Disabilities in e areas, the Institute has been conducting rehabilitation camps in collaboration with District Authorities and NGOs to provide aids and appliances.
  • a) Screening and Assessment Camp:

    In the first phase assessment Camps are conducted to asses and evaluate the Person With Disabilities and their needs for various types of Aids and Appliances. This will facilitate to derive the exact number of aids and appliances required for particular camp.

  • b) Distribution camp:

    After procurement of the required number of aids appliances they were distributed to the Person with Disabilities under Distribution camps.



  • ADIP{Assistance to Disabled Person} Camp
  • Introduction

    The ADIP scheme was introduced in the year 1981 for the Persons with Disabilities and implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India. It came into sharp focus, particularly after the enactment of Persons with Disabilities Act (Equal opportunity and protection of rights and full participation act) 1995, It has been the constant endeavour of the Government to provide the disabled persons with aids/appliance, at minimum costs, which are essential for their social, economic and vocational rehabilitation.


  • Eligibility of Beneficiaries
  • 1. An Indian citizen of any age.
  • 2. Holds a 40% Disablement Certificate.
  • 3. Has monthly income from all sources not exceeding Rs. 20,000/ per month.
  • 4. In case of dependents, the income of parents/guardians should not exceed Rs. 20,000/ per month.
  • 5. Who have not received assistance during the last 3 years for the same purpose from any source. However, for children below 12 years of age, this limit would be one year.
  • 6. Documents required (Originals of all enlisted document to be shown for verification)
    a) Two copies of photograph (showing disability)
    b) Photocopies of residential proof, contact and telephone number
    c) Photocopy of Disability Certificate
    d) Income Certificate form Competent Authority
  • (MP/MLA/DM/ADM/SDO/BDO/Counsellor/Gram Pradhan/ Employer/ MGNREGA card/BPL card/Disability Pension Card)

  • Short Term Training Programmes
  • The department conducts Continous Rehabilitation Education (CRE) in form of Workshops, Seminars etc. for the Professionals in order to enhance their knowledge in the latest development in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics. The Short courses are also conducted in other subjects under the broad category Rehabilitation.
